It is really the understatement of a century when we say we LOOOOOOVE camping at Kerr Lake. We love, love, love going there. For us, this lake has it all. Every site so far has been clean, neighbors friendly, and never short of amazing views. Since our family is all about that #lakelife, we always try to go somewhere with direct access to water or somewhere nearby. We stumbled on Kerr Lake on accident for our first trip and still can’t get enough. The photos below are from Henderson Point Campground. You will quickly see why we just keep going back!

Kerr Lake, also known as Kerr Reservoir, is ginormous. We are talking 50,000 acres of water BIG. This lake runs along the Virginia and North Carolina border. Another super fun fact is that Kerr Lake has almost 850 miles of shoreline! This provides just about each and every camper who stays on Kerr Lake the opportunity to be lake side. We can’t speak for everyone, but there’s got to be a reason this campground is booked every weekend during peak summer! I am assuming the lure of being lakeside for $30 per night is the reason!!

Kerr Lake State Recreation Area has 7 campgrounds with over 600 total camping sites.

These are the 7 campgrounds:

  1. Henderson Point
  2. Nutbrush Bridge
  3. Kimball Point
  4. Hibernia
  5. J.C. Cooper Campground
  6. Bullocksville
  7. County Line

Campsites offered at each campground:

    • Primitive sites (no water or electric)- walk up, walk in, or hike in
    • 30 AMP electricity hookup with water
    • 50 AMP electricity hookup with water

We love Kerr Lake and have stayed at 4 out of the 7 campgrounds so far. Because this lake is so large, each time you visit a different campground, you get a different experience which we absolutely love. Check out www.NCparks.gov for more info about Kerr Lake, all the campgrounds, trails, activities and how to book a campsite!

Where is Henderson Point Campground?

Take A Walk Onto Our Site

We stayed at site 54 for 2 nights.
If you look close, you can see water hookup was 10 feet from the camper. And just look at that view!
Walking from the site entrance toward the tent pad.
The view from our tent pad.....about 20 steps from the water.
I spy a cozy, secluded little spot for early morning coffee watching the sunrise!
Seriously...Henderson Point Campground is AH-MAY-ZING! We would wake up here every morning if it was up to us!

Henderson Point Campsite Amenities

Henderson Point Campground does a great job of keeping all sites super clean and camper friendly. For a state park and around $30 per night, I am still amazed by how much these campsites have to offer.

    • Poles to hang your lanterns, bug catchers, or hammock.
    • Large, spacious site pads filled with pea gravel.
    • Picnic benches at each site. Some will have the traditional wood. Others will have the Trex faux wood material that holds up well to anything.
    • Ring fire pit with the flat grill top option. Go ahead, cook your burgers over that open flame!
    • Dedicated garbage cans for each site at the end of the site for easy waste disposal. The campground has site services that come to pick up trash daily.
    • Large, clean bath houses. Some with changing area and shower area in each stall.
Our tent pad was located behind the camper instead of on one of the sides. Unfortunately this meant no awning. BUT, we got lucky with weather and trees shading the entire site.

Fire pit and picnic table for use.
Metal garbage cans available for each site for trash removal. Each day these get emptied by campground maintenance.
